OCTOBER 2011 CERT MESSAGE

OCTOBER 20, 2011 AT 10:20 AM“DROP, COVER, AND HOLD”

Californians will once again have the opportunity to practice what we should do when the earth starts shaking.  People continue to be killed or seriously injured because they panicked and ran during an earthquake instead of doing the “DROP, COVER, AND HOLD”.

Over seven million Californians are already registered to participate in the 2011 Great California ShakeOut.  Businesses, community groups, governmental agencies, schools, etc. are getting onboard to prepare for a major earthquake in Southern California.  The all too frequent scenes of people struggling to survive and recover after a major disaster should be our ‘WAKE-UP CALL’!

Take this opportunity to Get Prepared.

Register your family, social group, office, etc. at: http://www.shakeout.org

OAK PARK NOW PRESENTS:
THE OAK PARK COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM (CERT)

In our latest video, OakParkNow highlights the Oak Park Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).  Derek Ross, volunteer editor, is an active member of CERT.  In this video, Derek interviews Oak Park CERT coordinator Di Starzak, who educates viewers on the purpose of the CERT team.

The CERT team consists of volunteer members from the community who have dedicated themselves to assisting Oak Park in the event of a disaster or emergency.  All members have attended a series of training classes providing them with disaster preparedness techniques and basic first aid skills.  All CERT members meet on a quarterly basis.
