Local property taxes only provide about 1/3 of the funding for schools in Oak Park with the bulk of the funding coming from the State of California. This ratio is true for most school districts in the state. Funding to schools in the state of California has been decreasing dramatically, causing the Oak Park Unified School District (O.P.U.S.D) to become a “shrinking” district, which is anticipated to become a trend for the next few years. Additionally, the O.P.U.S.D. is funded “per pupil” by the state of California, which will have a continuing negative effect on the financial situation of the school district.
Oak Park is a community that has a strong tradition of sharing responsibility, especially when it comes to children’s schools. But there is a need to further supplement the funding that Oak Park schools receive. That is why Friends Of Oak Park Schools was established as an educational foundation that augments the resources available to Oak Park schools while preserving programs that are in danger of being eliminated. This will help maintain high quality staff, and provide Oak Park children with the best possible educational experience.
Friends Of Oak Park Schools appreciates the support of the community in both financial terms and in volunteerism. If you would like to receive more information on how you can donate funds to Friends Of Oak Park Schools or assist with events, or even join the board, please contact at 818-735-3270.

2009-2010 ENDOWMENT CAMPAIGN
Friends Of Oak Park Schools is very excited to be part of your child’s school year experience. Their goal is simple - to help children’s educational experience by providing additional funding for programs that would not otherwise be offered.
Simply put, the support received from the community changes children’s lives by providing them with educational opportunities that are no longer possible in this troubling economic environment. That support comes from donations received from parents, community businesses and matching funds.
In addition, last year Friends Of Oak Park Schools created an Endowment Fund that will is helping to plant funding seeds for years to come.
Think of it as an “Alumni Pledge.”
So how can you help?
This year’s Endowment drive begins at registration. Last year, Friends Of Oak Park Schools raised over $27,000, and this year’s goal is to raise $50,000 in endowment donations. Please support Friends of Oak Park Schools efforts in this endowment drive.
The annual giving drive will begin in October, whcih will raise funds to support programs for the following year. In the past, music and science education has been in all Oak Park schools while striving to grow additional programs now and in the future. Working together as a community is the key to preserving these programs.
Please join Friends Of Oak Park Schools!!
Whether by donations, volunteerism, attending Friends of Oak Park Schools’ events or communicating your ideas, Friends Of Oak Park Schools does this to provide all Oak Park children the best educational experience possible.
